Time Circuits

Doc Brown

LED number displays that show various dates

Overview

In 2015, I set out to create a replica of the time displays from Back to the Future as a vehicle for learning more about electronics design.

What followed was a nearly yearlong journey of design, learning, and rarely interacting with other human beings.

After months of breadboarding, PCB design, programming, electronics assembly, and extremely amateur metal work, the project was completed just in time for BTTF day on October 21, 2015.

Fast forward ten years later, an issue caused one of the display modules to fail. A few soldering touch-ups and replaced 16 segment display driver later, and we're back!
